Officers were called to the scene around 8 p.m. Thursday and discovered four vehicles were involved in the collision.
According to police, it’s believed the initial crash happened between a northbound truck and a southbound van, causing them to collide head-on.
The truck then bounced off into the ditch, but the van stayed in the lane of travel and was struck by two different vehicles, one northbound, followed by another vehicle driving southbound.
The drivers of the two original vehicles were killed, a 78-year-old woman and an 83-year-old man.
The highway was closed for several hours for officers to collect evidence and was reopened Friday morning.
RCMP continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
