A Regina boy whose family lost their home in a fire is feeling lots of love from his kindergarten class at Rosemont Community School.
Aidyn and his four siblings are living in a hotel after their home caught fire just a few blocks down the street from his school, on 4th Avenue. His father is in hospital with second degree burns on his arms.
When his young classmates were told why he wasn’t in school and that his family was going through a tough time, they wanted to help.
“They were so sweet. ‘We need to make him a card. We need to make him a present.’ That was their first thought, ‘how can we help him?'” said kindergarten teacher Elisha Barton.
Students drew their own pictures and added heartfelt messages to the card. They plan to send it to Aidyn on Friday along with an overwhelmingly large amount of donations collected by the school.
When Barton notified other parents about the fire, she said she received responses within minutes, asking how they could help. By Thursday morning, parents had collected $500 for the family.
Barton said seeing the hearts of her students open up for others in a time of need before Christmas has left her in tears.
“You never see Aidyn without a grin ear to ear. (He’s) just always so happy, thankful, he tells me he loves me every day.”
Aidyn is taking some time off from school to be with family, and his classmates hope to see him back in the new year.
