There are even fewer ways to get around Western Canada these days after Rider Express cancelled its Calgary to Winnipeg route just weeks after starting.
Rider Express began the route in October, hoping to attract all the Greyhound riders when that company pulled out of this part of Canada.
But Firat Uray, owner of Rider Express, said it didn’t work out.
“We tried it for a couple weeks and we didn’t get any bookings.”
So the route was ended.
That route also stopped in several Saskatchewan communities like Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Whitewood, and Moosomin. Now, the only community Rider Express has service to on the Number 1 highway is Regina.
Uray said the company tried to get some help from the government to keep the route going, but it didn’t get much of a response.
“I think if we do advertising and if we get some help from the government, there is enough passengers that we can run between Highway 1 East and West.”
In Saskatchewan, Rider Express still runs between Regina, Saskatoon, and buses also make stops in North Battleford and Davidson on routes to and from Alberta.
