Once again, Don Cherry proved that if he’s not the most-watched person on Canadian television, he’s up there.
On Saturday night, Cherry drew a huge reaction when he described the Carolina Hurricanes as “jerks” for some of their post-game celebrations this season.
If you’ve missed them, the Hurricanes have played Duck, Duck Goose, pretended to be bowling pins, mimicked a baseball game and have had some other odd celebrations following victories this season.
I don’t have a problem with the celebrations and the fans there seem to be enjoying it. Cherry, not so much. He used the word “jerks” four times in a one-minute span on the weekend.
Some fans are with Cherry, while many are of the mind that the guy with the flashy suits and tons of showmanship shouldn’t be criticizing the Hurricanes for their actions.
Agree or disagree, this much is for sure. At 85, and after nearly four decades on television, Don Cherry still draws a reaction. He’s doing what he gets paid to do.
