The window opens Friday to submit proposals to receive funding for infrastructure projects in the province.
Premier Scott Moe announced Wednesday at the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) convention in Saskatoon that municipalities and other groups can make their initial proposals under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program from Friday through April 30.
Through that program, the provincial government is to receive more than $896 million in federal funding over 10 years to support eligible infrastructure projects in Saskatchewan.
Among the projects that would be considered are: Public transit; green infrastructure; community, culture and recreation projects; and, work in rural and northern communities.
In a media release, Moe challenged communities and groups to “work together and consider submitting projects that can serve a region and its people.”
The list of groups eligible to apply comprises: Municipalities; First Nations and Métis communities and organizations; public sector bodies, such as utility boards; not-for-profit organizations, such as recreation or community associations and boards; and, for-profit organizations, provided they’re working with Indigenous entities and/or municipalities.
Those making requests for funding must submit “expressions of interest” so that the government can determine infrastructure priorities and funding needs in the province. More details for the applications will be required later in 2019.
