Jamie Nye: Pre-season finale could be final game for a vet or two

Craig Dickenson sent a message in the last week of the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ training camp.

Veterans should have had their ears perk up as the new head coach clearly stated veterans on the bubble had best show their stuff or it could be them, not some rookies, heading out the door on Saturday when the final cuts will be made.

Dickenson was talking specifically about linebackers. Sam Hurl. Brandyn Bartlett. Could the injured Solomon Elimimian be on the block if younger linebackers continue to show well?

While tonight’s pre-season game will likely be heavily analyzed on how Zach Collaros plays, he already been named the No. 1 quarterback.

There are many positions where you’ll find veterans on the bubble at O-line, D-line, linebacker, receiver and defensive back.

Be ready to be surprised when the cut list is released after a camp in which Dickenson has complained a few times of the effort.

A big-name cut could quickly get the team’s attention that complacency will not be tolerated.
