It’s been a hit and miss weather weekend across Saskatchewan, with isolated showers bringing a wide range of rain accumulation from border to border.
From Friday to Sunday morning, Saskatoon saw around three millimetres of rain, while Regina didn’t see any, according to Environment Canada.
Pilger, 33 kilometres northwest of Humboldt, saw the most precipitation over the weekend with 63 millimetres of rain recorded over the 48-hour period.
Sara Hoffman, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said spotty showers across the province created the inconsistent numbers from community to community.
Many areas saw different intensities of rain, but Hoffman says those isolated and heavy showers don’t do much when it comes to the overall rain accumulation numbers.
“It didn’t mean that (the rain) was widespread, and it didn’t mean that it was heavy enough to accumulate because it was for a short period of time,” she explained.
Hoffman noted Saskatoon is expected to get around three more millimetres of rain Sunday afternoon, until everything clears up Monday morning.
In Regina, there’s nothing expected in terms of precipitation until Tuesday night — that’s when the wet conditions will come back for most of the province.
When it comes to this work week, Hoffman said the rain will be very similar to this weekend; the isolated showers will differ from area to area.
“It won’t be that widespread, soaking rain,” she said.”It will be pockets of heavier precipitation, where you drive a little bit (in another direction) for 10 minutes and they have a different rainfall amount than you.”
This weekend’s touch of moisture helped the province’s fire risk; Hoffman said much of the Fire Danger Map in Saskatchewan now sits at “low” or “moderate” after the last couple days of precipitation.
