Regina police were called to a house in the 1500 block of Cameron Street on Tuesday to investigate a woman’s death.
Officers were sent to the house, on the northeast corner of Ninth Avenue and Cameron Street, at 4:12 a.m. after receiving a report of a person who was not breathing.
The woman was declared dead by EMS. Police then taped off the scene.
Roberta Pelletier lives three doors down from the house. She said her three-year-old son was first woken up by ambulances at around 4 a.m.
But it wasn’t until she was going to start her paper route at 6 a.m., that she realized someone had died.
After she talked to police officers about what was happening, “I get back in the vehicle, and my husband pointed out there’s a white bag on the front porch. I glanced over, and he’s like, ‘There’s a foot.’
“I thought he was joking, and I looked, and sure enough, there was a body,” she said.
Pelletier said the body was mostly covered, except for the foot sticking out.
“I think it was the edge of the porch that stopped the police from being able to cover that part,” she said.
The neighbour said that her kids did get to know the woman and the man who lived in the house, because her kids spent time playing with their dog.
“We’re fine, just a little bit shaken up, because we knew the people that lived three doors down,” Pelletier said. “We’re just kind of concerned who it is, or what happened.”
By about 8:30 Tuesday morning, members of the police service’s forensics team were on scene, Pelletier said. They had erected a black cover around the body, and were photographing the scene.
According to a media release from the Regina Police Service, work is underway to confirm the woman’s identity and notify her next of kin.
Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is asked to call the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
