Regina and other parts of southern Saskatchewan dealt with extreme weather Tuesday evening.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Regina, Fort Qu’Appelle and Swift Current. Swift Current and surrounding areas also were under a tornado warning.
All warnings ended around 8:30 p.m.
A torrential downpour led to streets and sidewalks flooding inside Regina. Five vehicles were stuck underneath the Albert Street overpass because of flooding. Emergency crews had to shut down the section of road.
It wasn’t just rain causing problems either.
Alicia Schulz lives on Howell Drive in east Regina. She said a lightning bolt struck a tree outside of her home.
“I was sitting on the couch and my mom was standing right beside me and my mom saw the lightning and right after my mom heard this big bang ,” Schulz said.
“We saw some bark on the ground and then it continued to rain and rain. It slowed down with the raining so my dad went out and looked and saw where the lightning hit the tree.”
She said it was a pretty scary experience.
“I never thought in a million years that lightning would strike our tree,” she said.
Power was also out in parts of the northwest end of the city as well as areas in the east like The Greens according to SaskPower.

The rain is coming down hard in Regina right now. Causing massive puddles on streets and flooding some areas of sidewalk. This is at Elphinstone and Montague. #yqr #skstorm pic.twitter.com/i0qHQkTG3v
