The poor weather at the start of the growing season is still keeping many Saskatchewan farmers behind as harvest continues.
For some, that poor weather is continuing. Steve Donald, who farms in the Moosomin area, told Saskatchewan Afternoon his fields are still wet.
“We actually haven’t had a chance to get going, and we’ve had seven inches of rain in the last 10 days,” Donald said.
Donald said frost wouldn’t be the worst thing for him, as a freeze can sometimes settle the weather down.
“If the crop is virtually mature, it doesn’t really do a whole lot of damage to it, but some of the later-seeded, greener parts of the field are definitely going to be affected,” said Donald.
Mallory Scott farms in the Landis area. She told Saskatchewan Afternoon it is stressful hoping for good weather, but that’s really all they can do.
“(We’re) starting to get a little worried, but trying to stay positive that the weather will turn around and get a good run going forward, and get it all done at once,” Scott said.
