Movie-goers looking for more options beyond Regina’s current theatre offerings can soon head out to the east end, off of Victoria Avenue: Landmark Cinemas opens on Friday evening with screenings Joker, Judy, Abominable and other films.
The new eight-auditorium building sits beside the city’s new Costco, and is near the Trans-Canada Highway and the east Regina bypass.
The theatre won’t be serving booze, but CEO Bill Walker was eager to show off its Dolby sound systems, laser projection technology and wide rows for anyone who has to step out for a quick bathroom break.
And every second armrest lifts up (like an airplane) so couples can cuddle up next to each other.
“It’s all about the movie-lover, it’s all about personal comfort, personal space, and the best on-screen presentation you can see, all with reserved seats,” he said.
All seats recline, too.
Tickets for people aged 14 to 64 start at $13.99; they go up by $3 for a show in one of the theatre’s top-end Laser Ultra auditoriums.
Tickets for kids ages three to 13 cost $9.50; kids under three get in for free, if they’re sitting on their parent’s lap.
Seniors aged 65 and older pay $9.99 per ticket.
The other item Walker highlighted was Landmark’s choice to cut down on the frequency of 3D versions of films being screened.
“We heard from our customers that they don’t want that (frequent 3D screenings). So every movie is guaranteed to have a regular, 2D option,” he said.
