8:30 – The Liberals won with 157 seats last night, despite the Conservatives taking the popular vote and winning an almost clean-sweep in Alberta and Saskatchewan. The Liberals’ seat total still falls short of the 170 needed for a majority government. The Conservatives improved their seat count from 99 to 121 and succeeded in defeating long-time Liberal MP Ralph Goodale in Regina-Wascana, while the NDP fell from 44 to 24 seats. The Bloc improved its position greatly, securing 32 seats, while the Green Party won three. Maxime Bernier lost his seat, meaning there are no seats for the PPC, and Jody Wilson-Raybould managed to secure her Vancouver-Granville seat as an independent MP. John shares his takeaways from one of the most interesting – and for some, disappointing – elections Canada has seen in decades.
