A month ago Travis Patron was asking for your vote. Now he’s facing aggravated assault charges.
Patron is the leader of the Canadian Nationalist Party, which has been criticized for its far-right stance and an ideology perceived by some as hateful and racist. A hate-crime complaint was reportedly made against him after he posted a video talking about “parasitic tribes.”
Patron ran for the Souris-Moose Mountain seat in the Oct. 21 federal election.
According to Regina police, the 28-year-old Redvers man has been arrested in connection with an incident that happened about two weeks ago in Regina.
Police said officers were called out to Victoria Avenue near Broad Street early in the morning on Nov. 2 for a report about two women who had been assaulted. The women were visibly hurt and were taken to be treated in the hospital.
According to the police investigation, the women had been talking to a man earlier in the evening, and when they declined his offer of a ride home, he assaulted them.
Patron was arrested and charged on Sunday. He’s charged with aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, and breach of probation.
