Sales were up and prices were down in Regina’s housing market in December.
According to the Saskatchewan Realtors Association, 137 homes sold in the city last month. That was a 38 per cent increase over December of 2018, when 99 homes were sold.
The number of sales in December was the highest in that month since December of 2015, when 143 houses were sold.
However, the association’s Composite Benchmark Price through December was $258,400, down 4.6 per cent from $271,000 one year earlier.
The benchmark price is down 12.8 per cent from three years ago and 10.9 percent from five years ago. It’s now at its lowest mark since the measuring device was adopted by the association in 2012.
“After a disappointing November it was promising to see sales numbers rebound in December,” association CEO Jason Yochim said in a media release. “The market experienced many fluctuations, but the year ended slightly ahead of where we were last year.”
In 2019, there were 2,570 homes sold in Regina, an increase of 4.68 per cent from the 2,455 homes that were sold in 2018.
The value of the sales last month was $37.7 million, an increase of 27.4 per cent over the previous December. For the year, homes sold for $774.5 million in Regina, up 1.8 percent from the $760.6 million generated in 2018.
