The Moose Jaw Warriors didn’t wait to pull off a blockbuster deal ahead of the WHL trade deadline, sending star left-winger Brayden Tracey to the Victoria Royals.
The team announced it has sent 19-year-old goaltender Adam Evanoff, the 18-year-old Tracey, a fourth round pick in 2020 (Red Deer), and a fifth round pick in 2023 (Moose Jaw) to the Royals.
In exchange, the Warriors are getting 18-year-old goalie Brock Gould, forward Logan Doust, 18-year-old defenceman Nolan Jones, a third round pick in 2020 (Victoria), a first round pick in 2021 (Saskatoon), a second round pick in 2022 (Victoria), and a fourth round pick in 2022 (Victoria).
The trade deadline is Friday at 4 p.m. Central Standard Time.
Tracey was drafted by the Warriors in the first round (21st overall) in 2016. Tracey enjoyed a spectacular rookie campaign in 2018-19, recording 81 points in 66 games with the Warriors. Tracey was named the WHL Rookie of the Year for his work on the ice.
Tracey was taken in the first round (29th overall) by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
This season, Tracey has recorded 15 goals and 23 assists in 28 games.
Evanoff was originally taken by the Warriors in the tenth round (219th overall) in the 2015 WHL Draft. He has appeared in 78 games for the Warriors, recording 39 wins.
Gould is 6-6-1 with a 2.81 goals against average this season with Victoria.
Jones, who is from Moose Jaw, is in his second full season in the WHL. He has recorded 38 points (13 goals, 25 assists) over that span.
Doust has recorded eight goals and nine assists in 99 WHL games.
Warriors also trade Libor Zabransky
In a separate deal, the Warriors made a deal with the Kamloops Blazers that saw the two teams swap import players.
The Warriors acquire 18-year-old import forward Martin Lang in exchange for 19-year-old import defenceman Libor Zabransky.
Zabransky was acquired earlier this season from the Saskatoon Blades for a seventh round pick.
Zabransky suited up for 13 games with the Warriors, recording six points.
Lang has recorded 52 points in 97 WHL games, with 19 of those points coming in 31 games with the Blazers this season.
