The wide-open empty spaces in the former Sears store at the Cornwall Centre are expected to soon be filled.
The mall is confirming that it has two new retailers lined up to take over the space. On the first level, one of the stores will have 15,000 square feet, with the other store having 45,000 square feet on the upper level.
Doug Bailey, the retail manager with the mall, said the Cornwall Centre is waiting to let the stores make their own announcements about their arrivals in the coming months.
The Sears space has been vacant since the chain announced it was closing 59 stores across the country in June 2017, and the Cornwall location was one of them.
Replacements are good news for a mall that has seen several new vacancies in the last year or so, including the Roots store closing, The Gap and GapKids locations closing, Payless shutting its doors and most recently Bentley closing.
There are a few pop-up stores which have filled space for the holiday season including Just Cozy, Calendar Club, and Lush Cosmetics.
Two more stores are shutting their doors in January at the mall. Volcom closed on Sunday, and Eddie Bauer will close Jan. 24. Bailey said he couldn’t comment on why the stores closed.
