Evraz has been fined $322,000 in the wake of a workplace injury at the company’s Regina plant in February of 2018.
The steel company pleaded guilty to one count under The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations in Regina Provincial Court on Monday.
According to a media release from the Government of Saskatchewan, a worker sustained several injuries after stepping on to a turn roll motor on Feb. 7, 2018.
The company pleaded guilty to contravening a subsection of the regulations that said it, as an employer, “failed to ensure an effective safeguard where a worker may contact a dangerous moving part of a machine, remaining in place at all times, resulting in a serious injury to a worker.”
A second charge was withdrawn.
The company was fined $230,000 plus a surcharge of $92,000.
