Man charged with voyeurism after hidden camera found in restaurant washroom

A 42-year-old Regina man is facing voyeurism charges after a hidden camera was found in the women’s washroom of a Tim Hortons restaurant on Rochdale Boulevard near McCarthy Boulevard.

Aaron Alwood Wheeler is to appear in court March 18.

Police say Wheeler doesn’t have any connection to the restaurant, either as an employee or an owner.

They have identified some of the alleged victims but believe others are out there, unaware they might have been recorded.

In a second media release issued Monday afternoon, the Regina Police Service said it believes there are “about 17 victims.”

The release added police believe the camera was in the women’s bathroom only on Jan. 20. A customer alerted staff members and they contacted police.

“The management believed the device was a camera, which appeared to have been placed to capture images of persons using the toilet,” a media release from police said.

“This washroom is in an area where both staff and public have access, but the camera was placed in a location where it would not have been discovered easily by staff in regular cleaning duties.”

Police seized a camera and power pack and the tech crimes unit started its investigation.

On Feb. 3, police received a second report involving the same restaurant. Police say staff members “noticed the suspect going into the washroom right away so there were no images gathered that day.”

Police say management provided security footage that led them to their suspect.
