Five-year-old Alex Konschuh is the first star of a hockey video now on Twitter.
Alex’s dad Braden tweeted out a video Saturday showing Alex on the ice for a game during the intermission at that night’s Regina Pats’ WHL contest.
Alex spends much of the video focused not on the puck, but on the blimp that flies over the stands at the Brandt Centre.
“It held his attention basically the entire game,” Braden said with a chuckle Monday. “They were out there for probably 2 1/2 minutes. He got into the play a little bit, but that blimp is pretty darn cool for a five-year-old, so it’s hard to pass up.”
Here’s the whole video. He gets back into the play a little bit, but at no point does he lose track of that blimp. 😂 pic.twitter.com/hQCGsag6xj

Konschuh said he and his wife, Brittney, had an idea that Alex might be fixated on the blimp because he was talking about it before the little kids took the ice for the contest.
Having helped Alex get ready for the game, Braden was at ice level when the game started. When Brittney saw what her son was doing, she got out her phone and filmed him watching the blimp.
After Braden saw the video, he tweeted it out. As of Monday, the tweet had been viewed nearly 38,000 times.
“I threw that on Twitter because Alex is a pretty funny, quirky little dude and I thought a couple of people who knew Alex would get a kick out of it,” said Braden, the sports information director at the University of Regina. “On Saturday, it just kept getting bigger and bigger and I’m like, ‘This is incredible.’
“It was just a cute little four-second video that I never thought would get as widely popular as it did.”
The tweet has showed up on media outlets, including Global Calgary. However, the Konschuhs aren’t concerned about the notoriety going to their son’s head.
“We showed Alex this little segment about him being on TV and them talking about him and he could not possibly have cared any less,” Braden said. “I don’t know where we go from here.”
It’s unclear if Alex and his teammates will get another shot to play during an intermission at a Pats game. If they do, Braden doesn’t have any plans to tell his son to focus on the puck and not the blimp.
“They’re only out there for three minutes anyway, so it’s more time getting dressed and undressed,” Braden said. “If he wants to look at the blimp, heck, I’ll look at the blimp with him.”
