The Regina Police Service has handed out its first ticket for a violation of the public health order instituted by the provincial government to stop the potential spread of COVID-19.
In a media release Monday, police said they issued a ticket to a 23-year-old woman who didn’t comply with the mandatory 14-day self-isolation period called for by the order. The ticket carries a fine of $2,800.
Public health officials told police the woman was not complying with the self-isolation period and she was ticketed.
People who are a confirmed case of COVID-19 or who have been identified by a medical health officer as having close contact with a person with the virus are required by law to self-isolate. People who have travelled internationally also are required to self-quarantine for two weeks after returning to Saskatchewan.
Police didn’t say which of those categories applied to the woman.
Anyone who wants to report an alleged violation of the public health order can call 1-855-559-5502. Public health will do the investigation, with assistance from police if required.
