I’m trying to stay optimistic that we’ll be able to see the CFL return to action this season, but it’s getting harder and harder by the day.
Even with Saskatchewan’s reopening plan, there is reason for pessimism about the CFL season, which can’t survive without fans in the stands.
Think about the second phase of Saskatchewan’s plan starting May 19 and then think that officials will go at least two weeks between plans. That means we won’t see Phase 5 at the earliest until July 1.
But then there is the number of people in a gathering going up to 30 in Phase 4. Health officials won’t be opening up to thousands until through the summer, if not until there is a vaccine.
Oh, and keep in mind Saskatchewan is the first province to even suggest opening up. B.C., Alberta, Ontario and Quebec have far more cases and concerns than our province.
As much as Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders is a fun rivalry, they may be the only ones able to play in front of fans as of Labour Day.
Time to start preparing for the worst and hoping for the best if you’re a CFL fan.
