An RCMP officer suffered a non-life-threatening injury Thursday night after being shot during the execution of a search warrant near Biggar.
In a media release Friday, the Mounties said the incident happened at about 11:40 p.m., when the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team was preparing to execute a search warrant at a home in a rural area 27 kilometres north of Biggar.
The RCMP investigation involved drug trafficking.
As the officers were preparing to enter the house, they came under fire and one of them was shot. The officer was treated by other officers and by members of the RCMP’s Emergency Medical Response Team.
The injured officer later was assessed by paramedics, who determined further treatment wasn’t required.
The other officers got into the house and a man and a woman were arrested without incident. The Mounties said their officers did not fire their guns during the incident.
There will be an increased police presence in the area Friday as officers continue their investigation.
