The Regina Police Service issued a public advisory Thursday about a convicted sex offender who is considered a high risk to reoffend.
Steven Brian Ewanchuk, 71, is moving into Regina’s Heritage neighbourhood, where he’s to live in a residence where his activities will be supervised and monitored.
Ewanchuk is described as being 6-foot-0 and approximately 200 pounds with green eyes and brown hair.
The police advisory says Ewanchuk has a criminal history dating back to 1970 that includes eight convictions for sex offences and four for non-compliance with court-ordered conditions.
Police said Ewanchuk completed programming designed to address his risk factors, but noted he “has not made any progress in reducing his high risk to reoffend sexually and/or violently.”
Ewanchuk, who was to arrive in Regina on Thursday, was the subject of a similar advisory in June. He was arrested in mid-October by Regina police officers after the Correctional Service of Canada deemed it necessary for the “protection of society.”
Ewanchuk must abide by a number of conditions during his time in the community.
Members of the public who have concerns or who wish to report an incident in which Ewanchuk violated his conditions are asked to call the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500, the nearest RCMP detachment, their local municipal police department, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
