Fire destroyed a longstanding burger joint at the White Bear Resort on Tuesday.
Deputy Chief Rob Klassen from the Carlyle Fire Department said crews were sent to Ogy’s just after midnight.
“The building was fully involved. The whole structure was involved in fire so at that point, we took a defensive attack as it wasn’t safe for our crews to enter,” Klassen said.
For roughly the first half hour, Klassen said firefighters had to wait for SaskPower to cut power to the building.
There was one person on the premises, but nobody was inside.
“The tenant was staying on site in another building. Nobody inside the building that was involved,” he said.
Crews put out the fire in about two hours, putting out hotspots the next day.
Ogy’s is believed to have been built in the 1980s and was a destination for those visiting the resort.
“It was the only restaurant up here for the last 15 years,” Klassen said. “It was quite busy in the summer months because it was the only place at the resort that offered those amenities.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
