The COVID-19 pandemic has created restless times for SkyPark Regina general manager Kenny Tran.
“I didn’t sleep for about three months, but now since we are allowed to open, I just had my first sleep (Thursday) night,” Tran told the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Friday.
SkyPark, an indoor and outdoor amusement park facility that features rock climbing, go-karts, mini-golf and other activities, opened for only 21 days until COVID-19 restrictions forced it to shut down. It was able to reopen last Monday.
“We have great support from our landlord and they worked through it with us,” Tran said. “The provincial government also helped us out a little bit too. That was really nice. It helped us carry through the three months we were closed.”
Tran said now that it is able to reopen, SkyPark is looking to bring back its full staff.
“We have mostly students that are working there and at the same time, they’re out of work,” he said. “We want to bring them back and make sure that they are well taken care of and we know that Regina will support us so we’re not concerned about that.”
Like other businesses across the world, SkyPark is taking precautions to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
“Before entering into the park, everybody has to sanitize their hands and all our workers will be wearing masks at the same time. Every single time (customers) switch from one course to another, they have to sanitize their hands before they’re allowed to get on there,” Tran said.
“In the go-kart area, we have a full mask that goes all over your face but your eyes are open so you can still see while you’re driving. We also have disposable masks that are thrown away after your race.”
As for the zipline course, Tran said employees will be sanitizing the equipment every 10 to 15 minutes.
