Coun. Jerry Flegel says he’s clean when it comes to an allegation made against him on the Survivor’s Stories Regina Instagram page.
“I’m quite comfortable in my past,” Flegel told members of the media Thursday during his mayoral candidacy announcement.
The Instagram page @victimsvoicesregina shared a post July 23 with an anonymous account of allegations against Flegel.
The account was given by a woman who said she was a female volunteer at a charity event in 2015 that she says Flegel also attended.
In the post, the woman alleges Flegel spoke to her and her boyfriend, who was also volunteering at the event. When her boyfriend was called away to something, she alleges Flegel turned to her and asked: “Is that your boyfriend?”
The woman said yes. Flegel then allegedly commented: “He’s quite a bit older than you. Lucky guy with a nice young girl. You like older men?”
Flegel then allegedly winked at the woman.
“I immediately felt flushed and panicky,” the post reads. “I went to walk away and he grabbed my wrist and whispered, ‘If you ever wanna try out a better older man, you know how to find me.’ ”
Flegel said Thursday he doesn’t remember the incident.
“I tried to look back on my 2015 calendar and I had roughly 100 events to go to … If someone would have said and done like they stated I did … I would have remembered that,” he said.
“It was about my professional conduct and I can tell you personally that I don’t act like that, I don’t do those types of things.”
Flegel said he has since tried to contact the woman who made the allegation.
“I’ve asked to speak with that person and I’ve gotten no response,” he said. “If they’re willing to come forward, I’m absolutely willing to talk to them.”
Flegel said he does not plan on issuing an apology, but would “if there was something to apologize for.”
“I’m clean. I’m good,” he told the media.
“I hold myself very high in how I handle myself (on) a personal level and a professional level, whether it be council, whether it be real estate or whether it just be at the hockey rink or the ball diamond.”
For now, Flegel said he is focused on the future and starting his campaign for mayor.
“I’ve got a plan for the future and if you want to look at my past … you have a window in a car or you have a rearview mirror. I’d rather look at the big window,” he said.
