A 10th person has been charged in connection with the death of Tiki Laverdiere.
In a media release Friday, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crime Unit-North said the Edmonton Police Service on Wednesday arrested a 36-year-old man who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for his role in the Edmonton woman’s murder.
Samuel Takakenew was charged Aug. 4 with being an accessory after the fact to murder, but wasn’t located until Wednesday. The RCMP said he had been living in Edmonton since Laverdiere’s murder.
He’s to be transported to North Battleford from Edmonton next week.
Takakenew’s mother, Mavis Quinn Takakenew, was arrested in August of last year and also charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder. She pleaded guilty in February and was sentenced May 15 to an 18-month jail sentence.
Laverdiere was reported missing in May of 2019 after she had travelled to North Battleford for a funeral. Her remains were found outside that city in July of that year.
A list of those charged previously in the case can be found here.
EDITOR’S NOTE: This is an amended version of the story; the RCMP corrected the spelling of the individual who was charged.
