Regina Public Schools announced Friday a student at Thom Collegiate had tested positive for COVID-19.
In a media release, the school division said it had been told about the positive case by the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
Two classrooms at the Argyle Street school were closed and students and staff from those classrooms were asked to self-isolate.
“School and division administration called all families with students in the affected classes,” the division’s release said. “Today, letters went out to all Thom Collegiate families. If there are any additional close contacts at the school, they will be contacted directly by Public Health.”
The division said that, after consulting with health officials, it will be contacting families over the weekend to tell them if they need to continue isolating.
The school will be cleaned and disinfected over the weekend and the division said it expects classes to resume on schedule next week.
Students have the day off Monday for a PD day, but staff are to be in the school.
Thom is the sixth Regina school to record a COVID case. There previously have been cases reported at Harbour Landing, Marion McVeety, Ethel Milliken and St. Kateri Tekakwitha elementary schools as well as Winston Knoll Collegiate.
