The University of Saskatchewan (U of S) Men’s Huskie Hockey program has lost its standout goaltender.
Taran Kozun has signed with the ECHL’s Kansas City Mavericks, an affiliate of the Calgary Flames.
Kozun joins the team following the cancellation of the 2020-21 Canada West hockey season. Kozun still had two years of USports eligibility, following a three-year career full of personal accolades for the goaltender.
He is the back-to-back USport Goalie of the Year, earning a spot on the All-Canadian First Team honours in 2019-20. He capped off the season with USports MVP and Player of the Year wins, as well.
The Nipawin, Sask. product additionally led the U of S Huskies to a Canada West banner in 2019-20.
The 26-year-old Kozun will follow in the footsteps of his older brother Tad, who was with the club for parts of the 2019-20 season.
In Taran’s USports career, he posted 41 victories in 50 appearances over the three seasons, posting a .928 career save percentage, 1.85 goals against average and 11 shutouts.
Prior to his collegiate career, Kozun played nine games for the Utah Grizzlies in the ECHL, along with parts of four seasons with the Kamloops Blazers and Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL.
