Regina’s Huda School will be closed for the next two weeks after a number of students tested positive for COVID-19.
As well, a teacher at Gladys McDonald School has tested positive, meaning students in one classroom at that facility will be learning remotely until Nov. 13.
In a media release Tuesday, the principal of the Huda School, Starla Nistor, said officials were informed Monday there were “a few cases of students with COVID-19 who attend the school.”
As a result, the school was shut and will remain closed to students and staff until Nov. 13. All students started learning remotely Monday.
“Providing it is safe to do so, the school will reopen for students on Monday, November 16th,” the release said.
The school’s staff members were informed of the positive tests and the families of all students are being contacted. The Saskatchewan Health Authority is to get in touch with any individual who may be considered a close contact.
The school is to be cleaned and disinfected.
Gladys McDonald case
In a series of tweets Tuesday, Regina Public Schools said a staff member at Gladys McDonald School in the Coronation Park area of the city had tested positive.
The elementary school will remain open, but students in the affected class will be learning remotely until Nov. 13.
After being told of the positive case by the SHA on Monday, the school division contacted all families with students in the class. As well, letters were sent to all of the school’s families informing them of the positive case.
The SHA is to call any students or staff members who were in close contact with the individual who tested positive. Anyone who shows symptoms is urged to stay home and call HealthLine 811.
