A 34-year-old Regina man has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years after being convicted of first-degree murder.
Chad Allen Barre was found guilty by a jury following a trial that ended Friday at the Conexus Arts Centre. That facility is being used instead of the Court of Queen’s Bench for jury trials due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Barre was charged in connection with the February 2018 shooting death of Justin Langan in what was Regina’s second murder of 2018.
On Feb. 18 of that year, officers were called to the 1400 block of Pasqua Street for a report that a 40-year-old man had been shot during a robbery.
Paramedics rushed the man to hospital, where he later died.
That evening, police found a suspect driving a stolen car through the city’s northeast industrial area. Officers chased the vehicle until it crashed into a police cruiser at Albert Street and College Avenue.
Barre was arrested and subsequently charged with a number of offences, including the murder of Langan.
