The Olympics proves yet again that at its core, the International Olympic Committee is about making money and nothing to do with sport.
If you needed any more proof, the IOC has included breakdancing in the official Olympic schedule.
The only reason is it’s trying to attract a younger audience.
I didn’t think audience demographics mattered when it came to who was the fastest or the strongest.
So now a breakdancer will get the same medal as the 100-metre champion, considered the fastest human on the planet.
There will be a day, and it’s sooner than you’ll want to admit, that the quest for teenagers to turn on the Olympics will lead to someone who plays video games earning that same gold medal as Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps.
I’ll be sure to tell my grandkids when the Olympic medal was actually for amazing human accomplishments — if they’re not too busy celebrating the latest e-sports gold for Canada.
