Nice people who deserve a plug.
It’s a tiny spot in Rob Vanstone’s column in the Regina Leader-Post and Saskatoon StarPhoenix. One name that has never appeared in that column is of course its author.
But Rob Vanstone is a nice person who deserves a plug. This week, Rob disclosed that he was the only person not to vote for Alphonso Davies or Laurent Duvernay-Tardif in the Lou Marsh voting. Yes, he was the person who allowed that award to be a tie.
He voted for Denver Nuggets basketball star Jamal Murray for his outstanding performance in the NBA playoffs. Murray’s two 50-point games in a single playoffs was rarefied air.
But the problem is, Rob’s honour and candor have led to others who don’t agree with him to pile on.
And while I don’t agree with Rob, Jamal Murray deserved the award — how I view what athlete of the year is — more than Duvernay-Tardif, who got 18 votes. Many of those voters remain quiet.
Media asks for honesty and accountability daily, so kudos to Rob for walking the walk. He’s one of the good ones.
