Like many businesses, Inland Concrete in Regina is not having an office Christmas party thanks to COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings.
As a result, operations manager Rob Young had some extra cash on hand that he wanted to put to good use.
He had about $1,200 to work with and could tell that for many people, the holidays were going to be difficult.
“People aren’t able to stay employed … It’s taking a toll on families with the restrictions in place. People aren’t able to be at home and not able to spend time with their moms and dads,” Young said.
Young was in a grocery store when he figured out what he wanted to do.
He spotted the collection bins for the food bank but did not want to make any ordinary donation.
Instead of canned beans or bags of pasta, Young decided he would buy 54 frozen turkeys.
“Everybody deserves to have a turkey at the end of the year,” he said.
Most of the birds went to the Regina Food Bank, with a few destined for Souls Harbour.
Young made the delivery on Monday.
“Fifty turkeys I think will go a long way with some of the families, right?” he said. “So that’s what’s important … so this is our way of trying to help.”
