I had to read Paul Dolan’s comments on his baseball team a few times to make sure I wasn’t being punked.
Dolan, who owns the currently named Cleveland Indians, said the name is no longer acceptable in our world.
Of course, he was reacting to the report that his baseball team would be changing its name in 2022 and getting rid of the name Indians.
But Dolan wasn’t done talking, although that’s where he should have stopped.
Instead, Dolan went on to say that he didn’t want his team to be known as “Baseball Team” or “Baseball Club” in 2021. So his squad will be the Cleveland Indians for one more year.
A last hurrah of cultural appropriation. Maybe they’ll have a game to show off their disgraceful Chief Wahoo logo one more time.
We should thank Dolan for ultimately making the right decision after a thorough review over the last few months.
But it’s just too bad he doesn’t see the idiocy of saying the name is no longer acceptable in one breath and then saying they’re going to keep it for one more year.
