There are now more options for hailing a ride to and from the smaller communities surrounding Regina.
Uber announced as of Friday, it’s expanding its service area to the RM of Edenwold and other neighbouring municipalities.
Drivers can now pick up or drop off riders from places like Pilot Butte, Balgonie, Lumsden, Craven, Regina Beach, Belle Plaine, Sedley and Riceton.
In August, the RM of Edenwold partnered with other municipalities to develop a regional rideshare initiative to attract Uber to rural areas around Regina.
“We are very excited to be welcoming Uber to our region. Uber presents a greater opportunity for connection across our municipalities and introduces a safe and reliable transportation option to our residents and the local workforce,” Jana Jedlic, manager of planning and development at the RM of Edenwold, said in a news release.
Uber arrived in Regina in the spring of 2019 and, until now, the ridesharing service was available mainly within city limits. A map on its website now shows its new service area.
In a release, Uber said availability and wait times in these new areas should improve over time as more drivers sign up.
