A 51-year-old Prince Albert man is facing charges in a case that began with a fire more than three years ago.
On Oct. 1, 2017, officers from the Leader RCMP detachment were called to a fire at a mobile home in the Lemsford Ferry Regional Park south of Kindersley. A man and a woman were found in the home and taken to hospital for treatment.
The initial investigation into the blaze couldn’t find a cause. However, in February of 2019, the RCMP were told the fire wasn’t accidental and the man who was injured in the fire allegedly was to blame.
Last Tuesday, the RCMP charged the man with attempted murder, aggravated assault, arson, obstructing justice and counselling to commit public mischief. Police couldn’t find him, so they issued a warrant for his arrest.
On Wednesday, police determined the man had travelled to Whitehorse, Yukon. The Yukon RCMP was called and the man was arrested without incident on Thursday.
He was transported back to Saskatchewan on Saturday and made his first court appearance Monday.
