The Regina Pats will be under new majority ownership effective immediately.
The Brandt Group of Companies has purchased the Pats, taking sole ownership of the organization. The deal has been approved by the WHL’s board of governors.
Brandt has been a co-owner of the WHL team as a partner in the Queen City Sports and Entertainment Group since that entity bought the team in April of 2014.
“This is a very exciting day for the entire Regina Pats organization; Brandt has played a key role in supporting and building up our organization over the years,” Pats general manager John Paddock said in a media release.
“Especially now, as we look forward to an end to the uncertainty resulting from COVID-19 and its restrictions, it is tremendously reassuring to have the strong backing of the Brandt organization and the Semple family.”
Shaun Semple, the CEO of the Brandt Group of Companies CEO, said he’s excited for what the future holds for the organization.
“At Brandt, we are huge Pats fans and strong believers in the importance of community,” Semple said in the release. “Regina is our hometown and we’re committed to ensuring a secure future for our home team.”
There wasn’t any word on the purchase price.
Current Pats president Todd Lumbard, another of the co-owners, will remain with the team in an advisory role.
The Pats are set to open their season on Friday at 8 p.m., when they take on the Prince Albert Raiders at the Brandt Centre in the WHL bubble.
