Two Saskatoon companies are filling the Saskatchewan government’s latest order for personal protective equipment for schools.
On Monday, the government said it was buying another four million medical-grade disposable masks and 30,000 face shields — the fourth order of PPE supplies for schools since the COVID-19 pandemic began in Saskatchewan.
“Our government is committed to providing teachers, students and school staff continued access to personal protective equipment from locally based companies,” Education Minister Dustin Duncan said in a media release. “We will continue working with our school communities to ensure they have the supplies needed to keep students, staff and families safe.”
The latest supplies are to be delivered this month.
The masks are being shipped by Innovation Safety Supply and are expected to cover demand for the rest of the school year. The government said it already has sent 12.4 million disposable and 210,000 reusable masks to school divisions and independent schools this year.
The face shields, from Benchmark Personal Protective Equipment, are in addition to more than 46,000 that already have been distributed.
Funds for the purchase are from the $10 million allocated to the Ministry of Education for PPE through the provincial COVID-19 contingency fund.
