The RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit South is investigating after a human skull was found in a field in the RM of Morris.
In a media release Tuesday, the Mounties said officers from the Watrous detachment were called Feb. 28 after people looking for shed antlers instead found the skull.
An autopsy done March 3 in Saskatoon determined the individual was likely a female between the ages of 25 and 35.
“The remains do not appear to be historical in nature,” the RCMP said. “At this time, it has not been confirmed whether this individual’s death is considered suspicious.”
The RCMP said it would be talking to other Saskatchewan police services and possibly police in other provinces to try to identify the person. DNA comparisons and consultation with the National DNA Data Bank also are being done.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Watrous RCMP at 1-306-946-3316 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
