It’s fire ban season in Saskatchewan.
On Wednesday, the municipalities of Corman Park and Vanscoy implemented a ban on open flames due to dry conditions.
The ban includes fire pits, burning barrels, controlled burns and fireworks, with the only exceptions being internal household fireplaces and gas-fuelled equipment such as a propane barbecue or propane fire pit.
Asquith firefighter Darren Kraft said several departments were called to help put out a grass fire south of Vanscoy on Wednesday evening. He said people need to be extremely cautious right now.
“It is so dry out there, it is unbelievable,” he told C95.
“(There are) people with cigarette butts throwing them out the window. We’ve had a couple ditch fires start that easily.”
There’s no timeline when the bans will be lifted.
The government’s website listed 23 active fire bans across the province.
