Saskatchewan is looking to sell itself in four more countries.
The provincial government announced Wednesday it will be opening trade and investment offices in London, Mexico City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The offices were announced in the 2021-22 budget, but their locations weren’t known. The province already has offices in China, India, Japan and Singapore.
The government set aside $5 million in the budget for the four new offices. Their goal is to drum up investment and trade in hopes of increasing the province’s exports.
“Saskatchewan is an exporting province, and it will be even more important to diversify and grow our export markets coming out of the global COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring a strong economic recovery here at home in the months and years ahead,” Jeremy Harrison, Saskatchewan’s trade and export development minister, said in a media release.
“These new trade and investment offices will expand our international network and enhance opportunities to increase the value of our exports by 50 per cent, as well as increase the number of international markets to which Saskatchewan exports more than $1 billion, in support of our ambitious Growth Plan goals.”
Saskatchewan’s merchandise exports in 2020 were valued at more than $30 billion, up 2.5 per cent over 2019. Last year’s total included a record $16.9 billion in agricultural exports.
