A Saskatchewan woman may be the next Maxim Cover Girl.
Theresa Smith, an aspiring model from Prince Albert, is in the quarterfinals of a contest to be on the cover of the popular fashion magazine.
If she wins, she’ll win a photoshoot with a professional photographer and $25,000, as well as a spot on the magazine that has featured famous supermodels like Jessica Alba and Megan Fox.
In an interview, she said that she signed up for the competition on a whim after seeing an ad on social media.
“I actually had a friend who was in the contest a couple years ago. I saw it pop up on my Instagram and thought it wouldn’t hurt to apply. I just thought it would be kind of fun to experience, and I never expected to get as far as I am now,” she said.
“I’m really happy to be there and really excited.”
While she’s feeling good about her chances, it’s also a nerve-wracking experience.
“When it was down to who got into the quarterfinals, I was sitting there on the page and watching the minutes and the seconds count down. I couldn’t look away, but it was giving me anxiety to watch it,” she said with a laugh.
Smith thinks the competition is stiff, but she’s also hopeful people will rally behind her.
“(At the beginning), I felt annoying almost promoting myself on social media, but the support I got from my friends and family, I was floored … Getting the word out there a little bit more … people who possibly don’t even know me voting for me, it’s just really, really kind and really overwhelming,” she said.
You can help her out by heading to the Maxim website and voting. As of Sunday morning, she was in second place with three days left in the contest.
