An update on the current wildfire situation in Saskatchewan reveals only 12 of 128 active wildfires are considered contained.
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) released their wildfire update Thursday morning. Fire risks remain high to extreme province-wide with hot and dry conditions remaining in the coming days.
The fire ban is still in place.
Steve Roberts, SPSA Vice President of Operations, says that there may be some relief from the fires in the Far North.
“We will likely only see significant relief in the far far north where the temperatures are going to come down and we’ll have more cloudy conditions in those areas.”
With wildfires in surrounding provinces as well as Saskatchewan, Robert says smoke will be visible across the province.
“Because of the fire activity both in the province and in our neighbouring provinces, we will see smoke and haze through most parts of the province because of the prevailing winds.”
A call has been made for local firefighters to contact the SPSA to help with the wildfire efforts.
