The federal Conservatives are gearing up for an election they think will happen this fall.
Conservative Party leader Erin O’Toole told Gormley, their party will be ready in the case of an election with one main campaign promise.
“We have a plan, the Canada Recovery Plan. It’s five pillars; it’s going to get people working including in oil and gas and it’s going to open up new markets for agriculture,” he said.
O’Toole said that if an election is called, they’ll be targeting any seat that wants to see the country recover economically.
“The conservatives got us through the last global recession, without raising taxes. We balanced the budget. That’s the approach we will have again.”
And he believes his party will take the win.
“I do think when there’s a chance to look at who should lead (the country) going forward, it’s going to be the Conservatives. We will get people working. We’ll unite the country again and we will be respected on the world stage once again.”
Last week O’Toole visited Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C. in his first big tour in-person tour as party leader.
He said that in the west, a lot of people he spoke to are frustrated with Justin Trudeau and his “anti-western policies.”
“How do we fix that? We get rid of Justin Trudeau and the only option to do that is the Conservative Party of Canada.”
