The Regina Pats will have a new jersey in their rotation this WHL season.
The design of the jersey pays homage to the team’s 104-year history to when the team was known as the Regina Patricia Hockey Club, named after the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry during the First World War.
The jersey features a colourful version of a First World War-era military badge on the front, referred to as a “sweetheart badge or brooch” that would have been pinned on clothing.
A Canadian military chevron appears on both sleeves and a diagonal stripe across the jersey pays respect to the sash worn in ceremony by infantry soldiers.
“These jerseys are a perfect fit for this season’s rally cry: March On,” a Pats media release read. “Our team and the Regina community are ready to march on following an unprecedented past 18 months.
“The Pats are proud to recognize our shared history and connection to the many brave men and women who fought for our country and continue to keep us safe today.”
The jersey will be available for purchase starting Saturday, when the team shows off the new threads in its regular-season home opener against the Prince Albert Raiders. Game time at the Brandt Centre is 1 p.m.
The contest is to be carried live nationally on CBC.
