The death of a 16-year-old girl in North Central is now being treated as Regina’s 12th murder of 2021.
Police were dispatched to a weapons call Monday just after 2 a.m., at a residence in the 1200 block of Rae Street.
Upon arrival, officers found a “female young person” who appeared to be dead, as well as an injured man who was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The girl’s death was confirmed by paramedics who arrived on the scene shortly after police.
Regina police said the girl’s name won’t be released.
“Section 111(1) of the Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits publishing the name of a child or young person that identifies that young person as a victim of a crime committed, or alleged to have been committed, by another young person,” the police said in a release.
“As the Regina Police Service has not yet identified and arrested suspects in this case, the circumstances described above are still a possibility.”
Police and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are investigating. Anyone with information that could help in the investigation is asked to call the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
