The Prince Albert Raiders opened a home-and-home set with the Saskatoon Blades by defending their home ice Friday.
Prince Albert scored five straight goals en route to a 5-1 WHL victory at the Art Hauser Centre. The teams are to meet again Saturday at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon.
On Friday, Jayden Wiens opened the scoring for the Blades at 4:40 of the first period, but the Raiders scored one goal in the first period, one in the second and three in the third and cruised to the victory.
Reece Vitelli, Nolan Allan, Landon Kosior, Ozzy Wiesblatt and Terrell Goldsmith scored for P.A. Wiesblatt’s tally was into an empty net.
The Raiders improved to 4-7-0-1, while the Blades fell to 9-3-1-0. It was only the second loss in regulation for Saskatoon in its past 12 games.
In Swift Current, the Broncos snapped a 10-game winless skid with a 3-2 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers.
Josh Filmon, Mathew Ward and Caleb Wyrostok had goals for Swift Current (3-7-2-1), which had gone 0-7-2-1 in its previous 10. Corson Hopwo and Owen MacNeil replied for the Tigers (4-6-1-1).
In Lethbridge, Jagger Firkus’ hat trick helped the Moose Jaw Warriors down the Hurricanes 4-1.
Eric Alarie had the other goal for Moose Jaw (5-7-0-0). Noah Boyko was the lone goal-scorer for Lethbridge (5-6-0-0).
