The Regina Pats hockey team is dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak, according to the Government of Saskatchewan.
The province’s COVID website indicates an outbreak was declared for the WHL team on Tuesday.
The Pats cancelled a media availability Monday after a member of the organization tested positive for the virus.
The WHL has recently paused team activities for a number of clubs, including the Swift Current Broncos and Moose Jaw Warriors. The Pats played the Warriors on Saturday.
Later Wednesday, the WHL announced it was postponing the Pats’ next two games, a home-and-home set with the Saskatoon Blades on Friday and Saturday.
In a release, the league said those games — as well as contests between the Victoria Royals and Prince George Cougars on Friday and Saturday — were being postponed “as a result of multiple players and staff being added to the WHL COVID-19 Protocol List due to exhibiting symptoms or having tested positive for COVID-19.”
The league didn’t identify which players or teams were dealing with COVID. It also didn’t pause the teams’ on- and off-ice activities, as it had done with the Broncos and Warriors.
