Extreme cold warnings for many regions of Saskatchewan were lifted Thursday — and were replaced in some areas by freezing rain warnings.
Environment Canada posted the latter warnings for areas around Lloydminster, Kindersley, Rosetown, Biggar, Meadow Lake, The Battlefords, Unity and Maidstone.
“A warm front crossing into Saskatchewan this afternoon will bring a band of freezing rain along the Alberta border from Meadow Lake south to Kindersley,” the warning said. “As this warm front moves further east, warnings will likely be expanded east to Saskatoon and south to the U.S. border later this afternoon.”
Environment Canada said the freezing rain is expected to end Thursday evening — when it turns to snow.
Just after 3:30 p.m., the weather service issued a blowing snow advisory for areas around Regina and Saskatoon and down into the southeast region of the province.
